Genius Hour Research Questions

Research questions should...

  • have a clear focus: A good research question is clear and focused on a specific topic or issue. It should not be too broad or too narrow.

  • have relevance & interest: It should address something that is relevant to the researcher, and be of interest to the researcher so that he/she/they can maintain motivation and engagement.

  • be open-ended: The question should not have a simple yes/no, true/false, or other one-word/short answer. It should prompt investigation and encourage critical thinking, allowing for multiple viewpoints or potential answers.

  • be researchable: Ensure the question is feasible to research within the given resources and time frame. Students should be able to find information and resources to answer the question.

  • be meaningful and have significance. It should address a real issue or curiosity that could lead to learning something new or contributing to existing knowledge.

  • have potential impact: Think about the potential impact or implications of finding an answer to their research question. How might it benefit others or contribute to understanding?
